I’m not really sure what this is. The lady at the used furniture store where I bought it had labeled it as a “gardening table.” When my husband called me and told me that there was something with cracked ice laminate at the used furniture store, I was all over it. Excuse me while I awaken from this coma …
The guilt finally got to me, and I opened up the WordPress dashboard to engage in the weekly Deleting of the Spam, a hearty family tradition that warms my heart every time I participate.
Anyway, I glanced at the date of my last entry and stopped cold: January 18? Really? Where have I been? Why haven’t I written a word in over three weeks? Continue reading “Excuse me while I awaken from this coma …”
Oh, how far we’ve come
I was digging through iPhoto today and discovered this scan that I made a while back: Continue reading “Oh, how far we’ve come”
Casey’s, it’s time to change the policy
For those of you who live in the MIdwest, you are painfully aware of the extreme temperatures we have been experiencing lately. Oh, sure, we like to brag to the southerners about how rough we are here; how weather-hardy we are because we’ve survived a blizzard or two. Of course, those boasts would be far more impressive if we lived, say, in a hut in the middle of the prairie with no electric furnace, but that’s beside the point. Continue reading “Casey’s, it’s time to change the policy”
Hello, good friends!
There are few things that I take the time to collect, mainly because collecting takes, well, time. I usually don’t have the long-term patience to scour the earth looking for things that I admire. I have, however, finally found an object that fuels my eBay feeding frenzy: WNAX Neighbor Lady recipe booklets. Continue reading “Hello, good friends!”
The table has arrived!
I finally received the table today, and it’s a beauty! Despite a last-minute panic about how the semi was going to get up our hill (we have a very narrow and tree-lined road), I made arrangements for the table to be delivered to a friend’s house, where I picked it up.
A retro Christmas
Those around me have begun to find it fairly easy to shop for Christmas presents for me. Simply find a nifty fifties item and wrap it up! I love the stuff that people find in their travels to various antique stores. Here are a couple of presents I received this year that will look awesome in my “new” kitchen: Continue reading “A retro Christmas”
Merry Christmas to all!
I’m in South Dakota for the family Christmas, which involves about 45 people all crowded into my parents’ log cabin for the sole purpose of eating Swedish meatballs. Oh, ok, I suppose there are other reasons why they all come over, but every family has its traditional food, and ours is the Swedish meatballs. I wonder, though: what are other families’ traditional Christmas foods?
A fire on a snowy morning
My fireplace experience didn’t turn out so great at first. The two boxes that housed the fireplace parts came on two different days, so there was panic on the first day when I just received the fireplace frame and not the firebox or logs. I put the frame together, and was a little miffed at the vague directions, but it all worked out in the end. Last night we received 8″ of snow, so when I got up this morning, I wasted no time in doing this: Continue reading “A fire on a snowy morning”
A plug for Lileks
If you haven’t discovered James Lileks, you will have by the end of the post. (Providing, of course, that you click the link to go to his site.) In his blog today, he gives some examples of Christmas cards from the ’50s out of a lot he recently purchased. (If you’re reading this not on December 15, then click the link for previous entries.)
