‘Tis the season — almost

I put up the tree yesterday after practically sitting on my hands for weeks to fight the urge to do it earlier. I go through this struggle every year. In our small house, putting up the tree means shoving furniture around and having less space than we already do, so it’s not something I can do weeks earlier than I absolutely have to. Yeah, this is still early, but I also know if I don’t put up the tree and decorate the house now, it’ll never happen.

When I was done, I snapped the picture above for your enjoyment. As you can see, I have a rare condition that not only causes me to have no neck, but an enlarged head as well. It’s tragic, really.

Anyway . . . part of my love of the Christmas season stems from one of my many fetishes, this one for retro Christmas items, particularly ones from the ’40s and ’50s. Old fonts get me every time, and I’m a sucker for old Santas — pictures of them, that is. I don’t ambush white-bearded men in the street, overcome with admiration for them.

Yet.

I was browsing through Etsy the other day and ran across an old stocking that so encompassed everything I love in old Christmas items that I had to have it, and have it I did! I have since been scouring the ‘net for a companion for this gem, but can’t find anything quite right.

Here my little stocking is in its natural habitat:
